Isn’t that awesome? I burst out laughing when I saw that.
It’s really kind of pathetic that this qualifies as “news.”
But not as pathetic as the fact that he apparently has to pay someone to have sex with him. I can’t say that I find Spitzer terribly attractive, but I would think that power would be a enough of an aphrodisiac. An ugly little man looks a lot better when he’s a governor.
Well, when an attorney general busts prostitution rings, runs for governor on an anti-corruption platform, and is then found to be using prostitutes, that does seem newsworthy.
Anyway, I’ve always found something kind of attractive about him, in a Christopher Meloni sorta way.
You do have a point, except I don’t think prostitution should be criminalized in the first place.
I was thinking more about the sex angle (which shows where my mind is). In Europe a politician frequenting ladies of the evening would would raise hardly an eye-brow.
On the other hand, I expect politicians to be dishonest and hypocritical, so this isn’t really a surprise.
The only thing surprises is how quickly Spitzer went down in flames. He’s been in office two years and now his political career is pretty much over.
This is awful news. And may I say unforgivable. Marriage vows are trashed too often in this country, and it is only made worse when the public trust is damaged along the way. Some are reporting that Lt. Gov. David Paterson could be sworn in by 7 P.M.
Let us be honest. The news is shameful. I really like Gov. Spitzer and some of his policy decisions, and so this is one of the more difficult bits of news I suspect we hear this week.
As a gay man who can not get married I find it remarkable that after major public stories like this I am still labled by society as unfit to be married.
I hope I am not confusing too many issues but these are my feelings.
While it would be cool to have a blind governor, I don’t think he should resign over this.
As one who believes that “marriage” is nothing more than a bourgeois institution designed to enforce male right and capitalist property relations and is an out-dated and sexist institution that ought to be eradicated from the earth, I love seeing marriage vows “trashed.” As a gay man, I’m glad I can’t marry: it’s like joining the army — only more hazardous to your health.

I just wish Spitzer were a Republican.
