Nearing 30

My 30th birthday is coming up in (gulp) 26 days, and I’d like to have a little gathering that night — a Saturday — somewhere in the city. Most of the invitees would be gay, but not all of them; can anyone recommend a good bar where the gays and the straight minority can all feel comfortable together?

  1. I have had mixed get-togethers recently at Clubhouse, 700 E Ninth St @ Ave C. This place is nice and all times I have been there has been dead. You may want to scout it out on Saturday nights prior though.

  2. The London production of Oklahoma! was on PBS last night,on Great Performances,of course with hunky Hugh Jackman in it if you have not seen watch out for it, it’s excellent….Bill

  3. Of course, you’re being too nice a guy and therefore missing the point of throwing your own party. Have your get-together wherever you want to have it. Pick any place that you like. It’s your birthday. The people coming are not coming to check out a bar, but to help you celebrate. Anyone whom you consider a friend should be able to put aside any discomfort with any aspect of the establishment that you choose for the sake of helping you celebrate. They don’t have to move in, they only have to be able to tolerate it for a couple of hours. The party is for you, not your friends. :)

I wish I could be there.

  4. Jere, he still needs to find a nice comfortable place that he and his guests are going to enjoy. It’s not Tin Man trying too hard to please others: it’s just a request for recommendations that will make for a fun night.
