The school edition of the musical “RENT” is having trouble getting produced in schools, even though the school edition eliminates the profanity and the simulated sex.
I’m just waiting for “Avenue Q: School Edition.”

Every year the Westchester paper has a list of all the high school musicals being produced in the county. I’m always amazed to see things like “Les Miserables,” “Miss Saigon,” “Cabaret,” and such on the list. Not just because I can’t see how they can be staged on a high school drama budget, but how do they remove all the potentially “objectionable” elements and still maintain a semblance of the original show?
Of course, RENT is no more risque than Shakespeare – it’s just that Shakespeare benefits from language evolution and modern-day ignorance…
