Cold

Cold

Cold is not presence but absence.

Cold bites you, burns your skin, but it’s not there.

Cold is defined not by what it is but by what it lacks.

Cold cannot seek out. Cold is vacuum. Cold can only wait for warmth.

Cold is negative space.

Warm clothes do not keep the cold out; they keep the heat in.

Heat wants to flow into cold places. Vacuums yearn to be filled. Aloneness is not natural. All things want to be together.

When you put on a hat and scarf and gloves and trudge out into the snowy winter wonderland, you’re not just keeping your body warm. You’re helping postpone the eventual entropic death of the universe.

Cold is zero movement. Cold is death. Cold is absence.

Cold is something missing.

  1. oh but i love cold! It’s what wakes me up, makes me feel alive. I have to work through the cold, therefore, it creates energy in me. Heat leads to sloth and inactivity, but cold makes me jump around, smile in spite of myself, laugh at the burn in my ears. Cold is what makes us seek warmth. If all we had were warmth, we would never crave it, we would scorn other people because we could already develop our own warmth. in the cold though, you create relationships, gather people around you to make sure you all stay alive, share what you have because each of us doesnt’ create enough on our own.
