John Tartaglia

Matt and I were walking north along Eighth Avenue on Saturday afternoon, heading over to Studio 54 to pick up our tickets for that afternoon’s performance of “Assassins.” We were about to cross West 46th Street when I noticed someone waiting to cross Eighth Avenue who looked familiar. That looks like John Tartaglia, I thought.

I took a closer look at his backpack and saw a button on it that said IT SUCKS TO BE ME.

Yep, it was him.

We watched him cross over and walk down toward 45th Street, presumably heading over to the John Golden Theater to get ready for the matinee of “Avenue Q.”

This was just one of the treats of the fun-filled weekend Matt and I had.

By the way, John Tartaglia and his “Avenue Q” puppet Rod are going to be on “Hollywood Squares” all next week, if you want to catch them. (Check local listings, as they say.)

  1. I saw ‘The Q’ on Saturday and thoroughly loved it. Super-hilarious and a good show generally. John Tartaglia is deff the best part of the production and he seems quite hot. I nearly swooned when I bought an IT SUCKS TO BE ME badge from him (the cast were selling them in the lobby for Broadway Cares).

  2. My performing arts group and I got the opportunity to see “Avenue Q” when we were in New York last week. John Tartaglia is one the sweetest guys. Not only did he stay after the show to talk to us and sign autographs and take a group photo with all 15 of us, but when we saw him 2 days later crossing the street with his friend and we waved excitedly to him and he smiled and returned the hello. It was truly a little taste of Heaven. “Sorry Kate…I masturbate” hahaha “Avenue Q” is absolutely brilliant!

  3. hey…I thought the broadway show Avenue Q was an awesome show. John you are a good actor. John graduated from my high school! How neat is that? My theater teacher went to the Tony’s and she went to the after party!

  4. Hey, I saw your blog and thought I’d say hi–

I’m a playwright, currently studying at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh but I live in Brooklyn, NY.

John Tartaglia was in my first play, JOHN R, which he lists in his bio on his website. We did the production in October 2001 right before he began his AVENUE Q stint.

Unfortunately, I’ve lost track of him since he hit it big…

On another note: a friend of mine was once engaged to Jen Barnhardt, also from AVENUE Q. (They’ve since broken up but remain friends.)

And to think, I still haven’t seen the show!!
