OK – I’ve rarely posted anything about sports on this blog, but my brother is a Mets fan and occasionally it rubs off on me. So:
They went from having a seven-game lead with 17 games left in the season – practically assuring them a playoff spot – to totally collapsing in the past couple of weeks, including losing today’s game, which means they won’t even make the playoffs at all.
I’m not really into sports that don’t involve shirtless men (i.e. swimming) or lean, muscly men (i.e. gymnastics). But something about end-of-season baseball interests me a little. I think it’s parly because of the mathematics involved, or something, and partly because baseball is a graceful sport. I’m not interested enough to watch a whole game, but if it’s near the end of a very important game and the score is close, I might watch. (Not that I watched this one – I just saw the news on the Times website.)
Anyway – stupid Mets.
I now return this blog to its usual gayness.
I started out a blog post on my site Saturday morning this way….
“I rarely write of sports here, but today there is every reason to acknowledge the Chicago Cubs. They are in post-season play for the first time since 2003. And since they are truly America’s team, and perpetual underdogs, I have been their supporter again this season. This habit of following the Cubs started more than a decade ago when a good friend married a woman who loved the team. To be better at sports chat I would read the sports stories in order to converse on the topics. I never have become a baseball fan overall, but do find the Cubbies worthy of my time.”
Go Phils!!
Yesterday’s loss was totally pathetic! That loser Tom Glavine gave up a ton of runs and only made it through 1 out of the 1st inning! What makes yesterday’s loss even more painful is that it is such a stark contrast to the type of baseball they played just one day earlier when they had a near perfect game in beating Florida 13-0. To come out the next day and sh-t the bed like that was pathetic. Bunch of losers. And to make matters worse, I came in to work today and 14 out of 30 people in my group got laid off (which is just part of the 1500 they’re laying off worldwide).
Here in California the SF Giants sucked so bad they turned AT&T Park over to the SF Opera and they did a free simulcast of ‘Samsom and Delilah,’ live from the Opera House, projected on the giant stadium score board on Friday night.
