I’m pretty sure this is a trick. The image switches directions regardless of what I’m focusing on on.
The image actually doesn’t spin at all, since it’s a morphing two-dimensional image; our brain just fills in the details based on what we expect to see as a 3D image. After a few minutes, I got to the point that I could fairly reliably shift my perception of the direction of spin at will.
