Happy Leap Day.
I know it’s 2008, but I love how February 29, 2000, was an exception to an exception to an exception.
Rule: February has 28 days.
Except for years divisible by four, when February has 29 days.
Except for years divisible by 100, when February has 28 days.
Except for years divisible by 400, when February has 29 days.
I would have blogged about this on February 29, 2000, but I didn’t have a blog then.
Or know what a blog was.
Unlike some people.
I lived through the past two turns of the century and never before realized that they were the exception to the Leap Year rule. In fairness to me, I was probably drunk, but thanks for the education!
I do hope your Bissext was joyful and productive!
Sorry, Mipiel, I’m exclusively gay. ;-)
A side effect of this is that almost everyone you’ve ever met, and in all likelihood, everyone you will ever meet, will have their 28th birthday on the same day of the week that they were born on.
This is because in each year, the day moves one day forward, except leap year when it moves 2. In 28 years, there are 7 leap years, and 21 non-leap years. This means 21 extra days plus 7 x 2 extra days. This is all divisible by 7, so each 28th birthday is the same day of the week.
Except for people born before 3/1/1900 or after 2/28/2072. It’s kinda cool, really :)
