A new play by Arthur Laurents will debut in New Jersey next spring.
Laurents, who wrote the books for Gypsy and West Side Story and directs the current production of Gypsy on Broadway, turns either 90 or 91 years old today, depending on your source.
I’ve been thinking lately about getting back into playwriting. This makes me feel like maybe it’s not too late for me after all.
Note that it doesn’t say that the play is good. He had trouble pulling that off fifty years ago.
But he’s at least making the effort. I hope I’m inspired to create art at that age. But I hope I don’t wait that long.
If you need any help in getting started, pick up Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way. It started me on the path to being a writer. (I wish Julia sent me a nickel for everyone I’ve recommended her book to. We’d both be rich.)
