Despite what I said, I opened a Twitter account last week. It was an impulsive decision — I thought it could help me be more social by giving me a quick way to tell people that I was up for going out and doing something on the weekend. Or I could use it in some sort of quasi-Dodgeball way to find nearby friends if I’m out and about.
I still haven’t written a Twitter post, but the account is there.
The problem is, I like to have all my web thoughts in one place. There must be apps that let you cross-post to WordPress, Facebook and Twitter. Or maybe I could set up a sidebar on the blog that will display Facebook/Twitter posts? Anyone know if that’s possible?
Yup, you can display Twitter posts on your blog, using code from here: http://twitter.com/widgets I use the HTML version on my blog, and seems to work OK.
I know Facebook has a “badge” you can put on your blog, which has basic info and maybe your most recent status, but I don’t know if there’s a way to display several recent posts.
One of my friends gives his FB status updates via Twitter, but I don’t know what app he uses…
Also, I use the Twitter application on Facebook. So in practice I usually only update Twitter, and then the Facebook app automatically also posts that status to Facebook. Crazy, I know.
I also broke down and set up a Twitter account. Although I don’t really have any idea what to do with it, since aside from you, Jeff, only one of my other friends is on it.
It doesn’t sound like you’re going to Twitter a lot, but if you are, think twice about having it automatically post to Facebook.
A friend just started that and she is an overactive Twitterer so her updates took up almost my entire Facebook home page. Not. Happy. At. All.
